Where did email marketing begin, and what is it?

Ray Tomlinson sent the first email in 1971 or 1978, depending on your source, ushering in the modern age of communication. The message was a string of numbers and characters that resembled a password more than a communication, but its importance was immense.

The email was sent from one computer to another over a network of devices resembling the internet as we know it today. Tomlinson also brought the "@" sign to the globe for use in email addresses.

Years later, Gary Thuerk, a marketing manager at Digital Equipment Corp, sent the first commercial email to a list of email addresses. And voilà, the birth of email marketing. Few hundred persons were on the list, but it was plenty for Thuerk to claim the title "Father of Spam."

There is no doubt that a well-crafted message may have a significant influence on your customers, not to mention CRM and lead nurturing.

Email marketing enables you to engage with your audience to enhance brand awareness and revenue. Emails may be used to offer items, communicate news, enhance your shopping cart abandonment rate, or tell a narrative.

With Mailchimp's campaign builder, it's simple to locate the appropriate email templates for every message, whether you're greeting new subscribers, informing consumers of a promotion, or wishing someone a happy birthday.
